The $150 minimum matters here. A single 5x8 synthetic at $68 does not reach it, so small rugs belong on a visit alongside something larger. One 9x12 clears it comfortably on its own.

Why wool prices higher

Not because wool rugs tend to be worth more, which would be pricing the customer rather than the work.

Wool holds more soil by weight than any other fiber, so there is more to remove. It needs pH-appropriate chemistry rather than the alkaline products that work fine on synthetic. And moisture has to be controlled far more tightly, because over-wetting wool causes browning that cannot be undone.

That is slower, more careful work with more steps in it, and $3.50 against $2 reflects the time rather than the postcode.

The add-ons

Pet urine treatment

For contamination that is in the fibers rather than through to the foundation. Where it has soaked through, in-home treatment will not resolve it and we will say so rather than take the money. Full explanation here.

Protectant

Worth it on a light rug in a household with children or animals. It buys you time between a spill and a stain. It does nothing about grit, which is what actually wears a rug out, so it is not a substitute for cleaning on schedule.

Deodorizer

For a genuine smell in the fibers. Not a default add-on, and masking an odor you have not removed lasts about a week.

Sanitizing

Worth considering on a rug that has never been professionally cleaned, one bought secondhand or at auction, or in a household with allergy sufferers.

Several rugs, one visit

The efficient way to buy this, and most Paradise Valley houses have several.

The travel and setup are paid for on the first rug, so every rug after that costs only its own square footage. A 9x12 in the great room at $183.60 plus two runners at $27.20 each is $238 in one visit, against two or three visits each carrying a minimum.

Tell us what is in the outbuildings too. Casita and guest house rugs are usually small, cheap to add, and the ones that have gone longest without attention.

How often to budget for it

Every 12 to 18 months for most rugs, sooner for entry rugs and in households with pets.

The reason is grit rather than appearance. Desert sand is fine and abrasive, and rugs catch it right at the door, which is why entry rugs and hallway runners take the worst of it. Everyone coming in from a driveway drops their load in the first few feet.

That grit works down to the base of the pile where it sits against the rug's foundation and cuts fibers underfoot. A rug is not just looking dull, it is wearing out, and that part is not recoverable once it has happened.
